Q&A for researchers

Who can submit?

This offer applies to researchers at any career level, that is, studies conducted in the context of a bachelor thesis can be submitted as well as studies of established professors. We accept studies on topics relevant to psychology, regardless of the researcher’s department.

How to submit?

In order to post a study on PsychTicipate, it must be pre-registered with PsychArchives or PreReg in Psychology. PsychArchives is a repository for publishing digital research objects, e.g. preregistrations, but also data, code, or preprints. The platform PreReg in Psychology provides information on preregistration of studies as well as templates for creating preregistrations.

On PreReg in Psychology, select the Repository Track to preregister your study. Your submission will be reviewed regarding formal requirements (e.g., file format) and if it complies, accepted. This formal review usually takes no longer than three business days. After successful preregistration, you will receive an access link for posting on PsychTicipate.

Which software can be used to create an online study?

Everything is possible as long as the processing of participants’ personal data happens in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

For example, we recommend formR and SoSci, two openly available programs for creating online studies. FormR allows the inclusion of executable R code, which, among other things, allows providing immediate feedback on a participants’  behavior.

SoSci offers a user interface with which one can implement diverse study designs even without programming knowledge.

Q&A for interested study participants

Why participate in studies?

Psychological research aims to make statements that apply to a large group (e.g., the German population). However, this group is usually too large to study all its members, which is why only a part of it (= sample) can be examined. It is therefore important that the sample is a sufficiently good representation of the total. However, this is often a difficult task.

With your participation, you can increase the representativeness of the sample and thus the accuracy and robustness of the results from psychological studies.

In addition, you will also gain insights into current psychological research, such as what questions and topics are being investigated. We encourage researchers to inform participants about the results of the study following their participation or after all data have been analyzed. In this way, we aim to make the research process transparent and comprehensible at all stages, in line with good scientific practice.

Who can participate in studies?

In general, any person can participate in the studies. Everyone who is interested in psychological studies is welcome to be a participant!

It may happen that the people in charge of the studies are interested in a certain group of people whose characteristics do not fit you. In these cases, this will be indicated in the respective study description.

How to participate in studies?

There are two ways to participate in the studies:

  • All active studies are listed on the “Current studies” page. Clicking on “Participate” takes you directly to the respective online study. Under “More information” at the respective study entry you will find more details about the study. The participation link is also available on that page.
  • On the “Participate” page, you can register for the newsletter. Here you will be informed (depending on the frequency specified during registration) either immediately or regularly about new studies.
